BARRABÁS
Gunshots, smoke canisters, burning tires. The riot police deployed armored vehicles in front of the crowd. Protected by police shields, the press tries to immortalize this historic moment. Suddenly, on the other side, the demonstrators start shouting “Barabbas, Barabbas, Barabbas…” They cheer the only photographer who has crossed the barricades. The people have chosen. They want the world to see their point of view.
That man, that ‘thief’ of moments, is Rodrigo Abd, winner of two Pulitzer Prizes. One of the world’s most renowned photojournalists. His camera has shown us from the war in Ukraine to the destruction of the Amazon. Always close to all conflicts, always in the right place at the right time. Immediacy rules. Now, however, he has decided to return to those same places and photograph with a large wooden analog camera the same people he photographed when they were news and now the news has left in oblivion. Rodrigo has also been followed by a camera for 12 years. This film narrates 12 years of world history, war, soccer, ethical contradictions and reconciliation.
